Reading
update: September 2008
All
students in grades 1-6 have been assessed to determine their strengths and
weaknesses in reading. The assessment
tool we use is called the Dibels. Dibles stands for dynamic indicators of basic
literacy skills.
Using
the results of this assessment, we have identified students that would benefit
from receiving intervention.
Intervention
class will be approximately 45 minutes every day.
Mrs.
Ruth Reid will be providing intervention for students in grades 1, 2, and
3.
All
students in grades 1 and 2 have been assessed with the Rigby benchmark
assessment and have been placed in their small group reading classes. (Classes
began on Aug. 29th) don’t forget to listen to your child read and
sign the parent sheet.
Kindergarten
students will be assessed on Monday, Sept. 8th with the Dibels
assessment. Groups will be formed and
students will begin working on letters, sounds, and participate in a shared
reading and activities with their reading instructor. Kindergarten will be assessed again the week
of October 13th. After fall
break students will be regrouped and then begin the 25 day phonemic awareness
cycle.
.
We
appreciate your support of our reading program.
Reading
tip: the more ways you show that reading
is important to you, the more important reading will be to your child.
